Default 480 engine noise

Just wondering if anyone can help with advice on a strange noise I'm getting from my engine (2.0i, manual, 93/L). The engine always has a slightly tappety sound, especially when cold, but when it's warmed up and been run for a while it starts to make a rumbling/clattering noise a bit like a diesel. I tend to notice it more when I pull up at the lights etc. and the car's idling. No particular problems with the idle - occasionally not entirely smooth but this doesn't seem to be synchronous with the odd sound.

Thanks for your help,

Ed

Don't know about the rumbly noise, but the tappety noise seems to be common on the B20f engines. I had similar on my 440, no rumbles though. I was told by another member that it's something to do with the spacers being worn inbetween the tappets. Never had a problem with it so i left it.

The rumble noise-what does it do when you rev the engine?

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to report back when I've been out for a spin again - I can't reliably remember what happens with the noise at the mo'.

Thanks, Ed
