T5 Problem
Hi everyone,
Volvo 850 T5 cd, 1996, 83000 miles, still under warranty. When changing gear the engine RPMs increase by about 300. This is the only car I have driven that does this (driving 25 years) The main dealers say this is normal for this car, ie turbo. My previous car was a 480 turbo, it drove normal, I also have a porsche 944 turbo and it drives normal. This problem mainly occurs at slow speeds and in low gears, when pushed hard it drives normally. The problem is I don't know anyone with the same car to compare notes. Do any other T5 owners have any ideas? Thanks, Graham. |

RE: T5 Problem
I get the same. Only at a low speed, just when you want to keep the revs down anyway. Don't know the answer though???? Sorry
PS Mines a 95 T5 Estate, and love it do bits. |

RE: T5 Problem
It's just modern engine management to conform with latest-generation emissions regs. When you close the throttle, especially at light loads, the ECU does not let the rpm drop quickly as this would cause a temporary hike in emissions. However, when you're pressing on, you use more throttle, and when you change gear you lift your throttle foot a bit more, so the effect is less pronounced.
My 2.0T is exactly the same, I've learned the knack over time but whenever anyone else drives it, they get the same. Cheers, Craig |
