Default Non-Start......

V70 2.0 10v
Turned ignition key, dashboard lights lit up as normal....
One further notch to start engine, NOTHING ! not even a click.
The dashboard lights were still lit.
This happened several times within a few seconds and then it started.
It has not happened since but its still a mystery.

Any ideas ?

If the car has an auto box it could be the gear lever inhibitor switch has some poor contacts. Try moving the gear lever over the full range about 20 times to clean the contacts.

If auto or manual, did the dash lights go out when you tried to start the car? If so, the battery connections could be poor.

Id go for battery contacts first(or main earth). There may be some juice getting through to power dash lights but not enough for starter power until it ''dries, sparks, whatever'' to allow enough power through. If it happens again do the headlights dim when you turn the key? Cheers Nigel

I'd agree with Chris, if it was something like the earth or the main contacts the lights would all go dim. It might well be the starter inhibition switch on the auto box if you have one. It might be a bit of grit in the ignition switch, or corrosion in the solenoid activation connection. Does it have an immobiliser and if so do they ever go wrong? Does anybody know?
