FREE MOT's !
I've just read this:
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...-Halfords.html Basically, Halfords are running a promotion. If you buy anything - even a 99p air freshener - you get a free MOT. The promo only runs until October 14th but once you make a purchase you can claim the free MOT anytime during the next 13 months. |

Call me a cynic but I'm always happy to pay for an MOT from a garage that I trust.
A free MOT has to be paid from somewhere and I can't help thinking that the grey area of "advisories" is where the garage makes the payback. Charles |

And now they can do the dangerous to drive category that makes it hard to even take it anywhere else for repair. As the old saying goes, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

I used Halfords and Kwik-fit cheap deals for 5 MOTs in a row and it never passed problem free.
I then used my local independent and paid the full (£50?) price and it passed without advisories. Only anecdotal I know but I'll stick with the independent in future.

What they all said! ^^
The thought is very much appreciated though Im sure! Halfrauds etc have very very bad reputation for fictional issues. My brother in law is still waiting 5 years later for his exhaust with a 'hole' and 'serious corrosion' to actually blow and fall off after he had to argue with the manager that there was no grounds for a fail/evidence of a leak and get it downgraded to advisory (before they put details in dvla system). |

Wise words, fellas.
If you drive cars like ours - i.e. old with plenty of wearing out bits - I can see how things could pan out... |

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !
Guarantee the MOT is free (!) but just review the list of required items to get that MOT & the subsequent cost . Amazingly the parts required will be available at their reasonable prices , they may even fit them correctly Cynical ??? Bloody right I am , I regularly get people rocking up after an MOT at Halfwits , asking if their findings are correct . I test in an MOT only vehicle testing station & perform no repairs of any sort . As a result there is no pressure to "sell " repairs to the customer
