Well new sensor arrived today, fitted and codes reset.Gone out for drive and still getting the misfire/juddering at around 1200-1500 rpm once the car gets above 2000 rpm it runs fine.I'm going to plug the DICE unit back in shortly and look again on VIDA.My question is could this be an injector issue and how to I check them out in VIDA as it's a minefield trying to find the correct sub-menu.

At this stage I'd get a garage to do a compression test for the sake of £20.
Could be a burnt out valve or sticky valve? Just had this happen on my girlfriend's Clio (French piece if crap) but would be surprised if it happened on a Volvo.

Well the same fault code is back up in VIDA,P2a00 O2 Sensor outside normal range.
I wish I could find a half decent independent Volvo specialist near me as I don't trust most of my local garages but the only place close in Stoke-on-Trent closed a couple of months back the guy retired. Does anyone know of a Volvo specialist in the West Midlands? I'm up in Staffordshire but I am prepared to travel to get the right help thanks. |

I have now taken the car into a Volvo specialist in the Midlands.
They did a ECU update which was supposed to have a fix for low rpm engine issues.Still the problem is there, they now suggest it could be carbon build-up on the valves but they reckon a compression test won't pick it up. They think I should get the engine "Terracleaned" but upon looking at the Terraclean webside the inlet side of the valves won't be touched with this process as it replaces the fuel. The car is quite low mileage 46k for 6 years old so it's possible if it has had a life on supermarket fuel it could be carbon build up,anyone got anymore ideas as I'm starting to get fed up getting nowhere with it. |

So my sorry saga goes on..I have now had the engine carbon cleaned as suggested by the Volvo independent garage.
The garage that did the carbon clean took it out for a test drive and still the same symptoms occurring. They cleaned out the EGR valve and the MAF sensor and then disconnected the MAF.I ran the car with MAF disconnected for a few days and it ran perfectly so pointing towards the sensor. A new sensor genuine Bosch fitted today fault codes reset and a trip down the road and the juddering is back :-( Only issue I can see is the battery voltage hovers around 12.8 Volts in VIDA most of the time which seems low the odd time it shoots up to around 14.5 Volts I have checked the Earth straps and it's a new battery a few weeks old which I reset in VIDA anyone any ideas? Have you had the ECU out to check for water ingress?
When you say "juddering" is it like the typical kangarooing effect? If so, check your intercooler hoses as boost leaks can cause that exact symptom.

Hi yes the guys who did the carbon clean also removed the ECU and checked no water ingress and the map is standard.
When the car is cold it jerks a bit more,I suppose you could say it was a kangaroo type effect. How do I check the boost pipes other than visually looking for splits? Also why would the car run fine with no MAF connected,I've asked the garage the same question they are at a loss and I'm fed up chucking money on guessing whats wrong it. |

This sounds exactly the same as what my D5 V50 is doing. I had my injectors tested and they all came back working correctly. Changed swirl flaps and swirl flap actuator but still no luck. Going to be taking my EGR and throttle off and making sure they are cleaned and working correctly as it seems like a hesitation issue.
