Default Radio display not working correctly

Hi All,

The radio display on my 2004 xc90 has gone blank today. The radio still works as does the cd player but no display. It did come back on for a short time but only displayed 1 radio station and the station info at the bottom of the screen did not move, I could still change station but the display stayed the same, since then it has gone blank again, I have checked the fuse which is fine, alnyone else had this problem?

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated

Matt

Your best bet is pop the facia out, check the connections that can be checked and cleaned. You have to start somewere with investigating. Disconnection from power is often enough to reset things but it maybe fubar.

Ebay search may find you a cheap replacement, if unrepairable.

You'll probably need a new ICM...here they cost around £1200 + software and installation, at least for the '03. I haven't had any luck finding somebody to repair them... You could also get a used unit, but make sure the part numbers match. There's a lot of different ones out there... You'll probably need a software reload from your dealer to make it work correctly.

Blummin heck thats a costly replacement, if that ever happens to mine Ill be getting an after market facia adapter and putting in a pioneer headunit.

It's a little bitch to replace it with an aftermarket headunit also, because of the fiberoptic MOST system. You'll find some guides on different forums

There are a few common faults with these units that are easy to fix - any competent car audio repair centre will most likley have the knowledge to fix them...

I have repaired two now, with, thankfully, no comebacks.

There is also a link/name on the board somewhere for the company that Volvo used to use to repair the units, so thats an option worth tracking down too.

Are you saying that you can repair dead displays? I have my old ICM here, everything works but the display. Would love to get it up & running again if you're taking orders...

Sorry to hijack this thread but my radio display has always bugged me as it "lights up" and dims randomly - even when no change in brightness/darkness.
Anyone have the same?
Thanks

There is a light sensor somewhere...i think it might be placed in the rear view mirror... It makes the DIM and ICM displays dim down a little bit at night, in tunnels etc.. It's a feature, not a fault.

If it's dimming up and down randomly i suspect the problem might lie there..
