That's a bit of a sweeping statement, maybe you have an experience to share?
My current BMW is approaching 10 years old, my last one was over 11 years old when I sold it, I have had the current one for just over 4 years, the last one I had for 5.5 years.
We've had our XC90 for 1.5 years and it has cost me more in repairs / replacements than the two BMW's put together.
That said it's still a very capable car and suits our needs, and I've grown fond of it during the time but had I known what it was going to cost to run...
The only thing I really hate about it is the stupid parking brake, it's a very poor design for a manual car

The american market dictated that , where most xc90 go of course ..
They should have brought out an electric conversion like the XC60 and repositioned the switch ...

Sounds interesting, the XC60 may well be our next car after this one, thanks for that

Default Fuel Flap Release

Well, it's back, another 9 months on and everything has been hunky dory, the car has run like it should . . . But there's always been that nagging doubt, What's going to fail next? And now it has, the Fuel Flap Release has failed, again, and again and again! I know the work around, how to open the fuel flap manually. But, when you're in the Highlands of Scotland, loaded up with camping equipment and dogs in the boot etc, it's not always convenient to get to the accentuator to release the flap manually.
Anyone any ideas?
Will a spray of WD40 sort it?
Will it have to be replaced?
Is it an easy enough job?

If its anything like the V70 of the same generation its a simple solenoid which can be accessed via the boot.

About £20-30 and an hour of your time.

Its really not a massive failure on a 4yr old car!

My fuel flap sticks too and I have to open it from inside. Not too much of a problem as only fill up once very 2/3 weeks but a pain none the less.

I have tried silicone spray and WD40 and both work for a few days and then it fails again.

I did a search on another forum here (V70?) and it did spell out a possible repair but I have forgotten it....
