It's a shame that I have to drive so far, however I would rather leave the car with someone who I trust, then worry about it when its in for a service 10 mins away.

Thinking about my dealership, the service was rubbish, they used to charge me £10.00 for a courtesy car when my car was being serviced. Their loss at the end of the day as I will not buy another car from them, shame really the sales guy there was excellent and looked after us when we took the car back, however he left.
Thanks for the tip about Tollbar Coventry. It is the closet volvo dealer to where we live with Hinckley. I think I carry on bringing our recently acquired XC90 to Strastone in Derby where I work !!!

I can afford to maintain my car but I object to paying out because the main dealer hasn't done what I paid him for, or done it so badly it costs me serious money to put it right.

I think everyone has the right to expect a good honest service from their main dealer.

What?!

So you're assuming that just because someone doesn't want to pay for a service that should have been done properly but wasn't that they can't afford to run their car?

Glad you didn't say that about me...

Jon

Jon
Jon, that's quite a sentence you've constructed there

No, I've tried but I just can't do it!

Are you having any luck and, if so, what's the trick?

FYI, I'm using a small tumbler type glass.

Default XC90 FNS Tyre Wear

I am after some advice, after writing to Volvo UK they have offered nothing.

I purchased my Volvo XC90 New in July 2005, in August that year I returned the car as it kept drifting to 1 side. I was advised that the tracking was correct and this was due to the camber of the road. I laughed and said, you are joking, however they insisted this was the reason. Anyway I have put up with this for nearly 2 years. 4 months ago I read a post on here about tyres wearing and the 4 wheel alignment. I took my car to an Independant specialist who straight away diagnosed the fault, which my main dealership could not. The 4 wheel alignment was out, this was rectified however as it had been out since it was purchased, the tyres had started to wear unevenly. On the outside of the tyres the tread was on the limit, however 3/4 of the tyre was fine, they have plenty of life left.

A bit annoyed as you can imagine, I took the car back to the dealership from who I purchased the car from, who advised that "It's not part of the PDi to check the 4 wheel alignment". They do not even have the facility there, however for £70.00 they would check this for me. I informed them that it had been done at my expense, plus the fact that I now had to replace 4 tyres earlier than needed due to the alignment not being correct and the initial fault not being diagnosed by them.

I have sent a few emails to Volvo who stand by the dealership and there own morals of the 4 wheel alignment. It is a maintenace procedure, so it is up to me to have this checked at my own expense. My argument is that it was never correct, the fault was never diagnosed when I took the car to them and now I have to pay out for the 4 wheel alignment and 4 new tyres due to them wearing mainly on the outside edge.

I am so frustrated, I paid 38k for the car and that's the service I get from Volvo.

What are your opinions, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott
The Volvo Community Forum came up on google when I searched for XC90 Front Tyre Wear. In reading this and many other articles it seems that there is a consistant problem with the near side front tyre wearing out long before the other tyres.

My XC90, new Sept 06 has now done 11K miles but the NSF tyre is badly worn on the outside edge and has been so since 6K miles. The car is about to go for it's first service so I will now see at first hand what response I get from the dealer / volvo. This is really a volvo issue not the dealers fault although they should act positively on our behalf. It is useful to know that I'm not alone with this problem.

It sounds to me that there is enough evidence to make a bigger issue of this if volvo do not respond positively!

Regards Nick

A number of tyre dealers I have visited have all said the same thing about n/s/f outer edge tyre wear - it's to do with the fact that we drive on the left, have heavy cars, and power steering.

Yes my 940 tended to wear the nearside front outer edge. All those tight left turns in London I guess. I checked some other 940's in London and they all had the same wear. Only rotating the tyres will even things out. Or stick to motrways.

Try running the front pressures at the upper range of the tolerance ...
