If I connect the multimeter to two terminals in the connector socket that links to the micro switch, shouldn't I get some sort of reading?
You should get a reading but it may only last for a short time as the lock operates i.e. may well be a short term pulse voltage to operate that switch.

However, having re-read all of the posts above, I wonder whether there's actually a break in the wiring where it passes through the hinge area which would explain the "CEM -1A5A Communication with REM control module signal missing" issue; i.e. if the wires damaged/broken no signal will go either way either the 0 if it is open or the 1 if it is closed.

If nothing changes when the micro switch is manually depressed, it would suggest that either the switch is faulty or there is break in the wiring. I assume you have Vida/Dice or a Volvo code reader - if the switch is depressed then you should get a change in code if the wire is intact.

Thanks for that, I hadn't thought about operating the switch while connected to Vida. However, with the key in position II, I do get a reading of 0.02 volts at the micro switch supply wires in the 'car end' connector but not at the 'lock end' connector, although, the lock motor does work. I guess this would suggest a faulty micro switch or connection in the wires from the micro switch to the plug. I was going to price a new micro switch from Volvo but I suspect that a complete lock from a scrappy will be cheaper!

I think you're right about the microswitch. You should be able to remove the switch and replace it with a matching one from Maplin or RS components or maybe a Volvo one like the one below for an S80 - I doubt they use different microswitches across a similar range of vehicles.

If I bridge the terminals, would that do the same job as the switch?
Did you replace just the inside black board?
I have problem with central rear central locking and clicing from rem same as you, also taht fault about cnection with rem.
