Rear Wiper not working
The rear wiper (and I think the rear washer) has stopped working on my 2004 (54 plate) Volvo V70. With the MOT looming, hoping that it's just a fuse. Any help, please?

I'm not sure, but I don't think the rear wiper is part of the MoT...

Be aware that when electrical items on the V70 tailgate don’t work,it might be due to broken wiring at the hinge.Use the Search facility for more info

The rear wiper is NOT part of the MOT.
Even if the wiper isn't working, the wash should work - the pump is in the screenwash tank at the front. I recently bought a new 3rd party rear wiper from ebay for about £50, works fine. The hardest part of the job was getting the old wiper arm off - I ended up buying a wiper slide hammer kit, like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/S-X8WA-8p...item33efe08a92 That got it off in seconds!

Does the wiper make any attempt to move. The spindles in these cars seize up and the thermal overload cuts out. Dismantling and grease sorts it out provided the plastic gears haven't stripped. Symptoms would be slow movement before ultimate failure and stopping in the wrong place. Does the pump make any attempt to pump? |

My rear wiper stopped working recently. The washer still worked. I found a blown 15a (blue) fuse in the rear luggage area fuse panel. I replaced the fuse and the wiper worked again. There are spare fuses and a fuse extractor tool behind the panel accessible on the side of the dash with the drivers door open.
About a week later I went to the airport to collect some friends. I had opened the tailgate at home to empty the boot ready for loading with suitcases. When I got to the airport I could not open the tailgate. Further investigation at home later revealed the wiper had also blown its fuse again. It was the wiring loom at the tailgate hinge that had worn out and wires were going short circuit. If the wiring loom is damaged in addition to the rear wiper and tailgate locking you could also lose the top LED brake light, or number plate lights, or rear screen de-mister. You could also get a tailgate open warning on the dash display even when the tailgate is closed. See https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=285157 for more details and photos. Rear Wiper and washer
Tried all of the fuses in the rear panel and all are OK. The washer motor does not make any sound (run) and the rear wiper is still not working. As it's not part of the MOT I can take some time, but my guess is that its the wiring harness as in previous posts on this forum. Can anyone tell me which is the fuse for the rear wiper/washer please?

I found a couple of lists of all the fuses and their locations. I noticed the tailgate wiper is listed twice. A 10amp fuse (Number10) in the engine compartment and also a 15amp fuse (No12) in the rear cargo area. Not sure if this is a mistake as I can not see a fuse for the tailgate washer, and I would expect a 10A fuse to blow before a 15A. I blew the 15A fuse in the cargo area twice, but did not need to replace any fuses in the engine compartment.
This link is for 2001 Volvo V70 but should be the same for 2004. http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/..._08a.htm#pg108 Another link lists 2000-2004 and also 2005-2007 fuse locations. http://www.volvohowto.com/volvo-v70x...-and-amperage/ |
