Hi Bob,

It is the same here in England (and I believe across the EU, of which we were once a part), 40 year old cars are exempt from the MoT test. The Royal Barge was 40 earlier this year so I may now just self-declare the car roadworthy on a DVLA form (V112). The RB still has an in date MoT, but I was not going to bother having it tested when it runs out at the end of the month and so save about £50.

It gets even better: next April the RB will be tax exempt as an historic vehicle, which will save another £278/year.

The Saab Viggen paint job looks quite cool, but I think you would have to fit the pilot's seat as well, which might make the cabin a bit cramped - and having the ejector mechanism certified might be challenging :-)

And. I do hope the summation may be of help encouragement or even assistance to those who twiddle spanners in that quest henceforth.


Summation re expressed. A method that currently doeth the task is. Support engine. Reach in through the lid of the engine bay. Deploy for example a socket for upper nut and a spanner for lower nut to undo the mounting. Remove oil filter being prepared against inevitable spillage. Remove upper mounting bracket using your preferred spanner(s) or socketry. Change mounting and reverse all other steps. Deep Joy. (No other dismantling required.)
