Default Brake discs - which one? Vida shows 4

Looking at changing the front brake discs on my C30 - Vida shows 4 different part numbers, but what's the difference between them?

It first splits to 15" and 16" (but I have 17" Volvo wheels...) - with the following part numbers:
15" - 31262718 (shows CH 283457 D 300mm) or 31362411 (shows CH 283458 D 300mm)
16" - 31362412 (shows CH 281378 D 300mm) or 31400941 (shows CH 281379 D 300mm)

Also - how easy is it to replace the protecting plate once the disc is off, mine are quite corroded...

Thanks in advance

The CH- and -CH are chassis number up to and from ranges so you need to narrow that down first.

Thanks - I presume 15" and 16" are to do with wheel size, so the larger one would suit a car with 17" wheels?

Odd that there are 4 different 300mm discs, only come across one aftermarket style. I wonder if it's something subtle like the vane count or shape?

Since you have 300mm discs, can I ask you a favour? I need the part number for the front rubber brake hose, I'm about to convert my 278mm discs to 300mm and not sure if I need longer hoses or not.

Frankly I wouldn't bother. The 300mm brake setup on my old T5 was utter garbage. The 278mm setup on our V50 performs better. I upgraded my old T5 to 320mm because the 300mm brake setup was so poor.

It may not make sense on paper but that was my experience.

Don't assume the size of wheel fitted to the car correlates to the brake setup size. The calipers will have the disc size stamped onto the front face of them (when I say front face I mean pointing towards the front of the car/wheel arch not the wheel). You could change the wheel size as and option and, to make matters worse, Volvo changed specs during model years. For example, early S40 T5s had 300mm discs then at some point they became 320mm regardless of what wheels were fitted.

Sorry, but I'd disagree totally with that. I upgraded my 2lt petrol from 278mm to 300mm discs and it made a HUGE difference.
For the cost of the caliper carriers, £20, it was well worth it!

`I guess that was the initial intention a long time ago but now no one knows as so many different size wheels are available some with the same size disc not even volvo knows , they look at the factory build sheet and see which of the sizes are marked under brake type .

4 different brake types is typical of vida and thats the problem.

quite often in vida, you DO get multiple items offered for the same thing and it p*****s me right of when the ones in the know just growl " look in vida"

As pointed out to the OP right at the beginning, there aren't 4 different types once you eliminate irrelevant chassis number options.

Can you give an example when Vida offers 4 or more choices of different parts for one chassis number?
