Yes, less is more!

Looks very nice.

I too would of removed what you have. Gives it a more original, graceful look.

My Dad had a 244 think 1981 year, in the mid 90's. fantastic light powder Blue with from memory a B21A or B23A

Sold it not long after buying as unemployed and fuel was heavy.

James.

... I've just taken the RB for its first proper run since changing the back box (about 15 miles I should think: Rockingham>Gretton>Weldon>through town on a round about route), the RB is running noticeably better. When I got home I noticed that having warmed up everything properly the tick-over speed had increased to 1100 RPM. I think what has happened is the engine is breathing a bit easier through the new silencer and so producing a little more torque on the same throttle setting, hence spinning the engine a bit faster.

I've adjusted the tick-over back to 900 RPM and all seems well. I'm rather hoping this will lead to a little improvement in fuel consumption.

Alan

Hi James,

Thank you for that, it is always nice to get a vote of confidence. I think getting rid of most of the bling was the right thing to do and the RB looks about right now (notwithstanding the black vs green issue I mentioned above).

Fuel consumption is a bit high on a 244 with the B21a motor - 25 MPG is not good compared with modern cars of a similar size. Such is life, I still like the car :-)

I think what you have removed-that stupid roof spoiler thing etc-has definitely been an improvement. The boot spoiler should stay as should the "pin striping" down the sides. As said personally I'd also keep the black wing tops, but certainly experimenting in this regard can do no harm and then you can chose which you prefer.
Although I was away from the forum for a while[I messed up when trying to alter one of my settings] I did keep reading your regular updates as I've enjoyed your "journey" with this car and believe your approach to keeping the ethos of the RB is the correct way to go.

Dear Royal Czar Othen

I would never have bought a car with that modified appearance. But I think you knew that already.

At the time of your boot spoiler saga I said keep it for being in keeping with other modifications.

What's the issue now?

I hope you have found the car's underlying maintenence issues so just enjoy the jam jar.

With a strangely modified appearance one would have, not be surprised, by maintenance issues.

You can count on me to speak my ignorant mind. But I think you knew that also already.

And. I think you have saved that car. A lesser buyer might have given up and scrapped the car by now. Well done you.

Alan found some further details that may be of use:~

https://www.lokari.de/epages/6271628...ing=volvo+240+
The liners are not made by Volvogue. They're made by a company called Lokari in Finland who make arch liners for all kinds of vehicles, trucks etc.........German web link: http://www.lokari.de/en_GB

Bob.
Thank you Bob, that was very kind of you.

I have sent Volvovogue a very polite reminder (a few days ago) but still not heard back from the company. It would seem from the volvoforums thread you included that the company is a bit old fashioned and not good at electronic communication. I'll give Volvovogue another week's grace, and maybe will get a reply, we'll see.

The Lokari link looks promising if I don't hear back from Volvovogue. The price is reasonable it would seem: 146 € / pair, but there might be some VAT and shipping to add to that - so the total might end up being closer to £200 than £130. I still think that would be a good investment for the RB; I've fixed what would seem to be the only rust patch on the motor car, so it is worth protecting in the longer term.

Alan

PS. I have just noticed on the Lokari DE website that VAT is included, so there shouldn't be any more tax to pay, only shipping from Deutschland :-)

I am delighted to be corrected. And I apologise.

Again well done you. A lesser buyer would not have stuck with finding the cobbled issues.

I'm pleased you have enjoyed the RB saga DD. As I wrote to John above, I do use this thread as something of a project journal, but I hope readers find it useful (and perhaps even amusing).

:-)
