Default Endangered Species ...

I received today a copy of 'Car Mechanics' which as of this month returns after 10 years to Kelsey Publishing ownership.

I was delighted to note that my 745 is now classed by them as an endangered species. I haven't bothered to check their figure of 1151 taxed but, it has to be good for values.

Thats a lot of 740s left! Last time i checked, there were under 400 760s left (of all engines) and even fewer of my other beast - so few in fact that the DVLA lump 3 different models together for that engine size.

I also know of a rare Honda that was once comparitively common, down to about 110 at the last check recently.

The trouble is we now live in a disposable society and rather than spend a few quid repairing their faithful old beast, they'd rather spend more than that each month on a new PCP funded car. Oh well, it's their money i suppose but we know who will be the winners, don't we Bob?

When I worked with a surveyor my no.2 bought a brand new Nissan Stanza (in 1983) and I spotted several about. Then like most they go and fade away.... When I visit my son by bus, from the upper deck I can see over the hedges of this major road near Brighton to the residential road behind. I noted a nice older-style Jap car sometimes in a driveway so last week noted its registration: it is a Nissan Stanza and looks in very fine condition. Therefore me being a collector of photos of older cars will get off the bus early and take some pics. When one looks on howmanyleft there are less that half a dozen survivors, of all 5 different variants. Now thats what I call an endangered species.....

Well, pleased to say mine's back on the road, after a little enforced holiday (the timing belt snapped...)

My daughter has remarked on this just recently. The number of relatively young people driving around in current year top of the range Audis and BMWs surely must be on PCP as we cannot understand how they can afford the car and the insurance. We definitely couldn’t at their apparent age.

On the upside, they're still young and have time to develop adult tastes in cars!

Society is way too fickle these days, there is no value in owning anything...the only priority is Instagram hits etc......

Anti-social networking has done the world in general a bigger injustice than all the world wars combined IMHO - at least with the wars there was a reason behind it other than some inconsequential persons ego with photos of themselves (conceited idiots) and cyber-adulation from other equally inconsequential people.

Don't forget that unless these people actually stump up a big chunk of folding at some point in time, they will never own a car in their lives and when they lose their jobs and need a car, will wonder how to get from A to B and back again!
