Default 740 Dash Light

Hi

Just wondered what the red light is for, its not in the handbook.

It comes on with all the others and goes off when the engine is started.

Was changing a few dash bulbs, and that must have been one of them, as its never lit up before.

Many Thanks

Andrew

Is that on your 740 Ian? If so, please remind me of the year, engine and whether or not it has a cat fitted?

As Jim says, it's the cat overheat warning lamp, usually fitted on the right hand side of the cluster. Has anyone had the cluster apart and refitted the mimic panel round the wrong way? (Mimic panel is the panel contaning the coloured filters and artwork for the functions that slides in between the bulbs and the cluster centre panel - Volvo probably call it something different though)

That position is normally where the low washer fluid is though.

Not lit up in this pic but you may be able to make it out.

Have checked the manual and all the other lights are in the place it says.
It's a b230e, with no cat, so it is strange especially having never seen before.

I am assuming it's a VDO cluster.

I haven't got the faintest what looks like a 'hot cat' is meant to indicate although it is in that first waning light position that was used for quite a lot of things, especially diesel engined cars and things applicable to different worldwide markets, especially the USA.

I looked at a few of removable VDO cluster plastic tel-tail strips when I was in the garage this afternoon getting the mower out and found one with the 'hot cat' symbol on it.

VDO clusters and, I assume Yazaki, were designed to be usable when fitted to a range of 700 Series models/engines either by varying wiring loom connections or inserting the correct plastic tel-tail strip in the warning light spaces. In most 700 VDO's the strips are in two halves.

No other thoughts at the moment!!

The more I look at it, can't help but think it would look more appropriate on the front of an oven, perhaps the casserole setting.
Or its Volvo's way of saying it's tea time.

Am going to a salvage 740 tomorrow to get the wiring for my radio and amp will see if that has it as well.

Catalyst overheat light, Only fitted to japan models.

Someone has replaced a bunch of lamps in the dash.
