Default Windows “auto” function doesn’t work anymore

Hi,

Maybe some of you clever chaps can shed a light in this,
The auto function of the passenger and rear door windows doesn’t work anymore. All windows open and close but auto function only works on drivers door. The auto function should work on all doors as it has in the past. I went through all the settings in the infotainment system but there don’t seem to be any options for windows etc.

Any ideas regarding this issue would be great.

Many thanks in advance!

PS. The car still has Volvo Select warranty on it. Should I take the car to Volvo, or is it something simple I can fix?...

Sounds like they need resetting.
Drop window to the bottom then pull button to raise to the top. Continue holding button in up position for 2-3 seconds then release. Try auto function.
Repeat for other windows.

I'd second this, mine did the same when I had the battery off doing some maintenance, I just reset each window as above and they all do the auto business now. Also had to do this on my VW Caravelle recently, same process.

Hi,

As above but the reason that the auto function has stopped is that the runners are dirty and need a clean.
Add some graphite to the channels and raise and drop the windows to get the graphite spread evenly and then do the reset function above.
Hopefully all will be well.

The correct procedure is to run the window all the way up manually, release the switch for half a second, then hold it in the auto up position another half a second and finally release.

If the resistance is too high you don't lose the Auto function. They turn and start going down instead.

Just adding to this thread to thank all concerned for the advice posted.

My XC70 lost auto action on the driver window, both up and down and it also didn't respond to remote total closure when the sun roof and the other windows did.

Followed the reset procedure and immediately the window returned to auto action and remote total closure control.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes, you hold lock button for 2-3 seconds and the windows should close.

Sorry I did not use the Volvo speak term but reverted to my old Peugeot days. Volvo's system is both opening of all the windows remotely and closing of all the windows and the sunroof by remote control from the key fob. The Peugeot system was merely closing any windows left open and seemed wonderful in its day but he Volvo system is fully comprehensive. And I also have Evgeny's remote closure mod for the tailgate so I can sit on my porch and open and close everything!
