Default Volvo UK might be changing their attitude!

Had to get the AA out as the car was running like a kangaroo. The AA guy did a nifty trick with the throttle pedal which made it behave normally so I could drive it to Carlisle. The staff at Lloyd Volvo were incredibly helpful and could not do enough for me (this time) considering they had just had an unbooked vehicle dumped on their lap at 4pm yesterday. 10am this morning I was told it was ready for collection.

I was told the ETM had failed and was expecting the very worse but to my surprise the final bill was just under £200.00.

Apparently Volvo UK supplied the etm to the dealer at cost and then a good will gesture of 20% was also paid for. Maybe, just maybe we are getting through to Volvo UK. Please keep the pressure up, I think its working.

So far it's driving well! Apart from putting an emergency £10 of Asda fuel in the tank. T5's dont like that cr4p!

So today’s report is A1 for Volvo UK and LLoyds at Carlisle. I think a thank you is in order.

(Apologies for the repeat post from VPCUK)

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO ON THE ETM'S. I HAVE NO RECORD THAT MY ETM ON MY 2001 MODEL YEAR T5 HAS FAILED (NOW DONE 121,000), BUT JUST HAD SOFTWARE UPDATE AND CLEAN AT STRATSTONE OF DERBY-CAR DID HAVE COLD START 'HICCUPS' OCCASSIONALLY, BUT NOW RUNS LIKE A DREAM.
YOU SAY 'ASDA' PETROL IS C*AP. DOES FILLING UP WITH BP ULTIMATE OR SHELLS V-POWER REALLY MAKE A LOT OF DIFFERENCE.? I'M AVERAGING 20.8 MPG. dO YOU FIND PERFORMANCE IS IMPROVED WITH BETTER QUALITY PETROL?

My own personal findings in a standard un re-mapped T5 which are in no way "law" are: Sometimes I get a tank of rubbish at Summerfield and Asda petrol stations, poor running and lumpy acceleration. Sometimes in rural areas I don’t have a choice of petrol stations when I need fuel. In theory its the same fuel with different additives!

Shell premium works best for me. Shell Vpower/optimax did not justify the extra price for the very, very little pmg gain. (I know if you have a remap you should always run it on 98+ Ron to get full power.)

Hi,

As I posted elsewhere:

Why should you be paying "only" £250? The hardware is faulty.
It was faulty from inception and will remain so.
The "new units" are not new, they are reconned faulty ones.!!!

You should sttill be seeking recompense from Volvo UK and if you get no joy that way, take the dealer AND Volvo UK to the county court and get your money back.

/Rant over...

Default Volvo Ireland changin attitude too..

The v70 was booked in for an etm a few weeks ago, when i booked it in i was told 821euro plus vat for the part plus fitting. Collected the car with 1400 quid in my pocket and got a final bill of 850... i was stunned it was so cheap and was told volvo offered 20percent off and charged me for one hour labour only...

Its better than 1400 but dont mock yer 200pounds bills in the UK!!!

Regards
Ben

You have small claims courts in Ireland too.
Linky....

Nothing to stop you using them and listing the dealer AND Volvo Ireland as co-defendants.
And you'll be aware that there are similarities in the law between the UK and Ireland - but do, of course get legal advice...

Default Volvo Australia changing their tune

I have just received a letter from Volvo Aust stating that some vehicles have a problem with the throttle system.
They will upgrade the software to overcome the problem free of charge.
The tell me that it only needs 1/2 hour to load the patch.
I wonder how many have been charged an hour or more ?

The interesting thing is I put my car in for some work to be done and get a quote about two weeks ago. They didn't have the parts needed in stock so
I had to bring it back. I had complained about the ETS light coming on and asked them to do the software patch and informed them that I would not be paying for the software upgrade.
They made no comment.
When I picked up the car they told me thay did not have the software patch.
However the ETS light has not come on since.

Funny that isn't it. They just cannot deal honestly with the customer.

Hi Ben,

Just noticed this problem on my recently purchased 2nd hand V70. Reported a transmission error light to dealer who reset it and said not to worry about it! Just found this website and saw that it is a common problem (power surge in my case)

Can you advise as to which garage didi the work for you as I would like to cite precedent with my dealer, when I go to get it fixed.

Thanks,

Donal O'Brien

Default Refurbishment of ETMs has to be a fraud

CTC Network commented about there being no new ETMs available and that
they use refurbished units.
They gave me the same refurbish story when I enquired.
They cannot refurbish the units as they need
a manufacturing plant to deposit the carbon onto the worn out track.

This is a major manufacturing process and I just don't believe that they can
be doing that. My understanding is the original manufacturer is out of business.

I suspect they are getting them out of wrecker's yards.

Does anyone know exactly what this refurbishment is ?
