I personally recommend against repair and instead just replace, In my my view the cost of replacement is low enough to not be an issue. But that's my preference and it certainly can be repaired.
You should be able to get the replacement part from any Volvo dealer/service centre. The part number is 8697604. It seems this place sells the part also. I wrote a guide for replacement, it's linked to in the second post of this thread. |

I've just sorted out the problem and as you predicted it was a broken wire. There was also a frayed wire and both have now been repaired.
Thanks again to you both, it's nice to have my boot back!! |

Yes,
If the bot will not open at all you'll have to get into the boot from the rear seats, remove the inner lining of the boot lid and unbolt the latch mechanism, be careful to remove the wiring from the mech. once you have the lid open, connect up the loom directly to the mechanism and the boot switch to release the mechanism from the body loop. Good luck! |

Hi, wondering whether anyone can help out. I recently replaced the lock mechanism on a faulty boot as garage had claimed this to be faulty. Turned out to actually be two broken wires in the loom so fixed them too.
Now the boot seems to work fine but the interior light doesn't go out once closed. Could this just be the micro switch in the mechanism or could I have mixed up the wires when soldered together and caused this? Cheers for any advice. |

Check that you soldered the wires correctly and that none of the others are fraying - How much of the harness did you strip back?
I removed and fixed mine over the weekend as my interior bulb wasn't lighting anymore and had a 'boot lid open' message on the dash. Stripped it all back and 2 of the 6 wires were broken completely and another 2 though connected, were exposed and worn so I stripped them and repaired them too. Make sure you have some insulation tape to hand to stop them shorting once repaired. If you have a multimeter just do a continuity test on all wires before stripping to make sure there are no issues, you should be able to buzz them all out to work out which wire is giving you trouble. |

Thanks
I removed the wiring completely and stripped back the fabric tape before manoeuvring the rubber boot back to reveal the broken wires inside. A few also had exposed wires so repaired with a bit of amalgamating tape. Have just realised that the boot lid warning is still active so something is not quite correct. It's my folks car so will have another look when I next visit. Perhaps re wire it to test the opposite connections if nothing else is working. |
