I'm attaching a couple of pictures showing the heafty alloy casting that's making the cover removal impossible at present.

Regardless, the D5244T is the 163bhp Euro 3 D5 which ceased being fitted in 2005.
From your additional links, yours is a 2008 so Euro 4 as a minimum and absolutely 100% not a D5244T.
It could be a D5244T4, T5 or T7

OK, thanks for that. I can only go by what it says on the label (which is *just* about visible in the photo I posted).
Anyway, I've got this big old chunk of casting getting in the way on mine which I need to remove to get adequate access to work in. But since it appears to have a wider purpose than a mere head-steady, I'm wary of removing it in case (for example) some unspecified fluid starts leaking. Do you have this casting on your model, btw? The bloke in the video clearly hasn't on his.

No I don't have this casting. I'm the bloke in the video.

Seriously? You're the nearest thing to a movie star I've ever encountered, in that case!
Looks like it's a T4, then. I found this image of a T4 head and the hole pattern matches the casting's bolts on mine exactly so far as I can see. So it looks like it's just a massively over-engineered head-steady and I'm not going to bugger anything up by removing it.

If you're on the Isle of Man, you get proper motoring celebrities and movie stars every year!

The video Is very good, but just get the engine mount unbolted and crack on. The hardest bit of the job is the stretch belt on the AC to PAS. If you have the tool it’s easier but other than that the video shows all you need to know.

Not sure about that, but we do get some incredibly brave (or stupid, depending on your point of view) people coming over for the bike races.

Elsewhere on this site I read a report from someone who said that their clutch failing caused the air-con pump belt to fail which took out the cam belt and consequently the entire engine was scrap. How does this occur? I mean, why would the clutch failing result in the air-con belt breaking??

Since I'm about to change the cam belt on mine, I guess I should do the aux belt at the same time, plus both tensioners and the water pump I suppose. I'm hoping there's just two belts in total on this engine, but can anyone confirm that?

Thanks!
If you are not so convinced cam belts are a good idea Google chain failure and replacement cost👍

IME camchains give you plenty of warning. Cambelts give you none.
