Default v70xc odd steering behaviour

evening..
I have a recently acquired 1998 v70 xc.
the steering feels a bit loose when dead ahead & has a slight pull to the left,
also feels like the alignment is slightly out (just been adjusted) but more importantly when manoeuvreing at parking speeds between 3/4 and full lock the front wheels seem to slip, similar to how they would behave if diff lock was selected on a 4wd.
no real play in the wheels when rocked etc, maybe a little on the inner tie rods, im going to take another look at those. could it be a rack related issue or maybe a symptom of the 4wd system being permanently activated?
TIA

Check the wishbone bushes thoroughly, there should be NO play in these at all, it's a common failure on these. If they're worn or loose, change pronto because a) it's dangerous and b) they will be ripping the life out of your tyres.
