Default Accelerator/ throttle/ cruse control issue

Hi, looking for some advice if possible?

My Dads Volvo V50, 93k on the clock has developed an issue where the accelerator fails to respond. Engine turns over at 1000 and the car will move but only on the clutch? Reverse seems to work better than first.

Initial incident happened on a trip to town, accelerator just cut out doing about 25-30. Managed to get the car home after bumping it up a curb letting it sit for about 2 min then restarting. Dropped it off the curb and got it back home on the dual carriage way using gears 1-4, but with the accelerator floored and occasional sudden acceleration. Cruse control button failed to work, thought it might be better than using the erratic accelerator!

Same thing happened about 8 months ago but only lasted 10 min and has been fine ever since! Car Has had a service since this happened but unsure if they connected a computer to it as they're not specialists.

All my local Volvo garages are closed until the new year, has anyone else experienced this? Thought it might be a throttle housing cleaning issue but I'm no expert!

Any advice would be much appreciated! Merry Christmas!

What year is the car?

Throttle controls are electronics these days, and Volvo has redundant circuits in please for reliability

So any diagnostics starts with reading codes and checking operation using VIDA.
