Default 1986 245 GL Auto - breaking for parts

Hi all,

I've got to downsize my collection, so I'm going to be scrapping my 240 estate. It's not got a straight panel on it, plus there's a fair bit of rust in it...and it needs a windscreen...and so it goes on. It's just not worth it. I was planning to pop a B230 turbo engine in it, but I'd be better off starting with a straighter shell, if I end up doing it at all.

So...all parts are in theory available except the seats and the door hinges. Body panels are probably not good enough to be worth the trouble, to be honest.

Mechanically, it's a B230A engine with an AW71 gearbox. It's done 208k miles, but the AW71 is one of the sweetest I've ever driven. It has a recent radiator, and brand new rear (oil) shocks. I also have a Monroe load-leveller kit for it, including a barely-used electric pump, and the in-dash control panel.

Any requests?

cheers

James

if you're planning to strip down the engine or pull it out, I could use a few bits, such as -

Engine block coolant drain ****
Engine mounts (the parts that connect the block to the rubber)
Metal heater tube that runs from the water pump up the exhaust side of the block
Intermediate shaft

As you may have guessed, I'm prepping a B230FT to go into a 240, having the engine buttoned up and ready to go will save me stripping my old engine down to finish the new one up!

Also, what colour's the interior? I'm also looking for c-pillar trims, rear floor trays and handbrake cover in tan.

Yeah, I'll be pulling the engine. It ran quite nicely...but it's got 208k on it, and it's a 9mm rod bottom end...so the market is limited. I'm sure I can get you the engine bits you need...either from this engine, or another.

The interior is blue. No good, I presume?

cheers

Cheers, I just remembered the other bit I need is the threaded bit that the oil filter screws to.

Blue interior's not much good unfirtunately

Now the only bit I need is an LH2.4 flywheel!

Sure, I can get one of those. What are you doing about an oil cooler, out of interest?

I might have a contact for the flywheel. I need one myself, actually!

cheers

Hi Minty,

Instrument cluster I can do. Being an 86 car, it has the earlier-style cluster with 'H' and 'C' letters on the temp gauge, and 'F' and 'E' letters on the fuel gauge. The temp gauges always read a bit high (depite new...everything....in the cooling system), so that's probably the regulator.

The door speakers are knackered, unfortunately.

cheers

James

I'm after a pair of front struts.. I only need the strut housing, not the shocks. Are they available?

Cheers

Yup! The wheels have got to come off anyway, so it's no big deal to take the struts off.

cheers

James
