It tows really well. The Volvo electrically deployed towbar is brilliant, easy to connect and the trailer lighting test is excellent.
The back does sit down quite low when the van is attached, but never so much that the jockey wheel touches the ground (like some outfits I see).
We have just come back from two weeks in Scotland (450 miles each way) in one journey.
Expect about 25mpg towing, be aware that the Pilot assist and BLIS do not work when there is a trailer attached.
The only issue we experienced this year was traction difficulty when trying to get into a CL on a steep gravel slope. Ended up having to take a bit of a run at it.

Thanks for he feedback its very much appreciated, ive considered adding the 4C with the self levelling to help with towing, interesting point on the seats, the seats of yesteryear (my 850R and the P2 V70 D5 sport) in my opinion wont ever be matched, i will look at booking a test drive in one to get a feel for the seats, they did seem a little figure hugging i must admit!!

It does just go to show that everyone is very different in what they like. I have the XC60 Polestar Engineered with even more extreme 'boy racer' seats than the standard R-Design seats and I find them some of the most comfortable seats in a car that I have owned marginally beating my last cars very comfortable seats, an Audi RS6 Performance.

As Boatie suggests, definitely go sit in one before you commit to buying one just in case your body dimensions dont work with the R-Design seats.

In my case it's not the 'bodyhugging' aspect of the seatback or base that's an issue it's the upturned 'ears' of the seat extension. Adjusting it in or out makes little difference. Anyway, whatever you end up with I hope you enjoy it.

They do take a bit of getting used to, but once I had found the base angle adjuster lever on my manual seats, I managed to get a good seating position. I use the adjustable leg supports to give my legs a change on a long journey. I have covered 54k miles in mine in the last two years and I am quite happy.

Bearing in mind my family and i only have older Volvos, my mum a 2003 V70 D5, we have a 2009 XC90, 1996 850R and my wifes 2007 C70 D5 SE LUX.

I never thought id own a brand spanker of a volvo!

As we are keen caravaners , currently have a 2008 Abbey Spectrum twin axle weighing in at 1490kg, the XC90 tows with ease, but with a work car i cannot justify to keeping the XC as well.

Im looking at a new V90 D4 R-Design, does anyone own one of these and can give some feedback on how it performs when towing etc. Specifically how they ride, perform, does the lack of self levelling mean the V90 sits on its arse (yes i know it depends on how the outfit is loaded)

Really interested in peoples views

Thanks

Rich
The caravan club towcar of the year awards have just been published, they put the V60 way ahead of the V90, the V90 is a capable comfortable towcar but the extra length made it a bit bouncy, the V60 B4 got a glowing review in the magazine supplement full review.

Honestly, Volvo should retire the B4 engine options in the flagship 90-series. If you look at what’s happening to the S90 (T8 only) perhaps we are already headed that direction.

same - i love the seats; i have back problems and never have an issue even after very long journeys. my old xc60 would = back pain if i was in the car for too long
