Default Petrol leak

Hi 2005 V70 petrol

I filled up yesterday.... Properly filled up to the brim... And noticed petrol dripping from under the car....

To be honest, recently I have smelt petrol but never seen any leaks (I had looked) and thought it might be the filter cap seal??

Anyway... This time the filler pipe.... Or rather what appear to be a couple of much smaller pipes running parallel are wet (with petrol)

And a small amount of petrol was seemingly dripping from the boot floor.... Though assume this was from the outside not coming from within... especially as the tank isn't in the spare wheel well?!

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Mine sprung a leak from the rubber elbow that joins the metal filler pipe to the tank, its about 6" long and should be easy but for the fact it's obscured by subframe. I tried removing spring and shock but it was just a waste of time you'd need baby sized hands to get in there

You can see it from underneath with a torch and possibly do a very temporary repair with a bit of bike inner tube and a big jubilee clamp if you're really persistent

If that's the same for you then the filler part and breather (might as well do both) is about 50quid Inc delivery from scandix but probably need to add a few hours labour to drop subframe slightly to get at it

Part numbers https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...-tank/1028301/

Probably available elsewhere as well try ebay

I had to use a normal garage because the specialist place was insisting on supplying the parts themselves no doubt at a big mark up. Not willing to use parts i supplied despite the fact it's in a bag with volvo written all over it

Thanks

Maybe a dim question... If I pull off this rubber hose with a full tank of petrol.... Then assume it's going everywhere!!

The smell I think had only really occurred if £40 or more..... So just over half full.... Computer reckons I've got 550 miles in the tank but that's mostly based on 4 hours on the motorway at 45mpg.....

If its brimmed then yeah have a bucket under. But chances of getting at it yourself aren't great.. unless you have a lift or a serious collection of jacks and some real confidence in these types of jobs

Even with a lift the garage guys were complaining how awkward it was you have to pry down the subframe or have someone literally hanging off it

You'd smell it every time regardless how much you put in because its going down the pipe past the hole

1st things 1st confirm that's where is coming from though obviously I don't want to mislead anyone

Behind drivers side rear wheel look past spring with a torch you'll see where the metal pipe goes into rubber elbow then into tank. Fat one is filler narrow one is the breather

Without getting under for a good look with the car up in the air, sticking my head under the car laying in the floor I can see right to high if imagine not too far behind the filler cap what appear to be two thin pipes ...... Breathers??

They're seemingly wet . ..... Do they perish??

I'll see if I can get a photo

Though I've just noticed something when I went for a look....

Directly under the filler cap there's a discreet hole.... obviously designed to channel away spilt fuel..... And I assume one of the thinner pipes takes this away somewhere..... And I did say I properly overfilled it so could have got fuel down this overflow

So where does it go!!!

TBH I'm waiting for someone to mention the people panic buying & brimming their tanks...is this what you normally do ?? Maybe you shouldn't have filled it so much...just saying...

Mine smells when it's brimmed too, I bought both the pipes that connect from the filler and breather to the tank but it looks a swine of a job to do on Jack's under the driveway.
Whilst I had the tracking done and it was on the ramp I had a look underneath, it's the small breather pipe that is weeping on mine so I'm going to book it into the garage to do
