I was watching that car with interest - the seller seemed to think that 122s and 123GT were the same thing
hope the buyer is not disappointed.
It did look like a very nice car to be fair, and you could spend a lot to get a 'normal' Amazon up to that condition. The patch of rust in the boot (drivers side where the floor meets the wing) might have put me off though - you'd think that a 10 grand Amazon would be absolutely immaculate. |

Well, if it did sell for that, and it's not just been used as an ad for the dealer, then so it goes. Hopefully buyer is happy. I bet the dealer is. Personally, I think it's too much for that car, especially with the misleading GT designation. It's also a bit rough in parts. On the other hand, I think they've been under valued for ever. It must be nice to have an unrestored and genuinely rust free example in RHD, if it is indeed that.

I was offered 15000 for mine a while ago, but I said no, not because I thought it was worth more but because I wouldn't be able to find an equivalent of anything. Apparently, according to a guy who imports classic Mercs into France, the Amazons in similar condition there fetch that and more, he thought mine would carry a premium because of the low miles, 28,000 kilometres. Its the old adage, stuff is worth what someone will pay for it.

I think this was the South African car I recently saw advertised for £5k on one website and has obviously been shipped to the UK with all the time and costs involved with that. A very nice car and it should have turned a profit for the dealer at £10k. Sounds a lot of money, but that's the way the market has been going and it's only worth what someone will be prepared to pay after all. Not sure whether it had overdrive fitted though.
