Default Winter tyres

It's time for some new winter tyres before the hilly Sheffield winter comes. I've been running some Vredestein Mud & Snows for several years, which I got secondhand, but they're old and the rubber is starting to perish. I'm a bit startled by the price though - Vredestein Snow + are showing as £221 each online. Presumably demand for them is low so there aren't many around. Does anyone recommend a good alternative?

Thanks,

Andy.

Got Falken AS200 all season tyres on my Amazon... been very impressed with them in wet and icy conditions.

You might find you have limited choice in rubber if you're running original wheels on your car (I've got 5.5 J steels with 195/65/15 tyres on mine).

I have heard very good things about Vredestien all season tyres - try Camskill or Black Circles as they tend to be very competitive with price.

Thanks Mike. I like the original wheels and I also have several of them! I've got Vredestein T-Tracs on for summer use, I've never tried them through the winter, but I've been very pleased with them. The car had some nameless remoulds on when I got it, and the Vreds were a transformation.

I can definitely recommend pirelli sottozero, they are great in the snow or on cold or very wet roads.

very well tested through the Czech Republic and the Alps as well. Am popping them back on soon as they are comfy quite and hold well on wet roads as its constantly wet here in cornwall

There's an ebay shop based in Italy selling Vred Snow Classics at £85 each with free shipping. This is the right size isn't it? 165/80QR15TL86 Q

The website is Suruote.it

Sounds suspiciously good value, not sure whether to trust it.....

I've also now found the Vred Snow Classics at £102 from Tyres Guru. Might be a safe bet, at half the prices of the Snow +

Default snow trac

I used 155-15 snowtracs on early narrow rims in the snow and they wereawesome in my Amazon on 2 or 3 inches of snow . Unfortunately if it is only wet or ice and not snow they were horrific ,really quite dangerous . We used them on the Monte Challenge two years ago ,had to take a load of air out of them just to get some grip on wet tarmac . As I say on snow they were fantastic but I wouldnt use them again. It may be because they were so small so 165 might be better . I have used vredestein Quatracs in all conditions, mud grass wet tarmac ,light snow and they have been really good

Hi,
I used Vredestein Snowtrac 6 x 175/65 R15 84T BSW fitted to 5.5" Minilite Alloy replicas on mine for the 2017 Monte Carlo Historique and they were simply awesome!
We had mostly cold conditions, from about +10c to -5c.
The road conditions varied from very wet to ice & snow and they performed admirably. I was able to drive with confidence throughout the entire event.
I cannot praise them highly enough!

Andy.
