What did you do to disable it? I dont really mind what year it is as long as it works. I am up for messing about with this one to see if I can get it to work but dont really know what to do.

On the 940 (my one at least) the alarm just plugs into the wiring loom under the steering column. The only thing stopping the car going is the immobiliser connection. I haven't looked to see where the wire goes I just assumed it went from ignition switch to a relay somewhere in a similar way to the inhibitor switch on the auto box.
You can just about see the wire in the picture I used to link the 2 connectors in the plug. The wires that need to be joned are green wth a blue tracer. If they do go to the starter via the ECU then I would guess some sort of live feed to whatever pin would work, I will have a look at the 940 wiring diagrams to see where the wires go. |

I have just looked at the wiring diagram I have and the Green blue wire that is used to immobilise my car just goes from the switch to the starter. I don't know if the connector used for the alarm is pre fitted or if it comes with the alarm.
If this is the case than a 1995 ft ECU could be used. I can't see any connections to the ECU. Item 3/40 is the gearbox inhibitor and c166 is one of the connectors on the drivers side of the trans tunnel. C2 is one of the biggies inside the car and C51 is in the engine compartment. I have just looked at the wiring diagram for the 95 car and it actually shows the alarm connector in the Green/Blue wire, again there are no connections to the ECU as far as I can tell. Not really sure what else could be different and cause the 96 ECU from working unless Volvo changed the ecu again. |

I am informed that there is a version 1 and 2 of this ecu and version 2 cannot be disabled. Dont know any more than that though.

I had a feeling that very late cars had built in alarms but haven't got wiring diagrams for anything later than 95.
Oh well being able to use later ecu's than 93 might give you a few more to choose from anyway. |

I think some kind soul has found me an early 940 ecu but I haven't got my greasy mitts on it yet.
Meanwhile.... I have fitted a couple more gauges and an oil cooler.... Second hand cooler and custom pipes "undoing" the old pipe fittings I used a mocal sandwich plate adaptor. The cooler roughly in place and connected up.

240 Turbo
Nice job Suterman.
I'm just about to start the project of fitting my B230FK in my 240. I had to remove all Bosch wiring from doner car as my 240 is pre LH2.4, Just one question, did you modifey turbo oil return pipe because it didnt fit in 240 setup or just because its a ball-ack to fit?? Cheers Kev |

On the next 240 turbo I helped do, we used the standard volvo oil return line, but we dropped the engine into the car complete with turbo attached. I think space may make it a complete ball ache to remove or refit. But until that pipe starts to leak on said 240 then i don't know how much of a ball ache it will be. |
