Default Egr valve xc60 d4 2015 clogged

VOLVO XC60 D4 2015. EGR VALVE AND COOLER AND INLET MANIFOLD PROBLEMS

My inlet manifolds clogged up with gunk
The egr cooler blocked
The Egr stuck solid with gunk

Volvo Stockport didn’t want to know

We cleaned the intake manifold it’s now like new cleaned egr cooler now like new. Egr valve cleaned but defunk. £800 for a new valve from Edinburgh Volvo
Stockport Volvo wanted £960!!
I’m worried about the crap around the valves and valve seats how can u clear em.
CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS FOR THIS. VOLVOjust says allrecalls up to date
Any advice grateful. Andy

yes there were a few recalls 2016-18 one of which was an EGR cooler with wider spaced fins to minimise blocking. Its always very wise to make sure the cars software is bang up to date too!.

Try Hallmark Volvo (independent Volvo Specialists), also based in Stockport. These aren't main dealers, so you won't be paying main dealer prices for labour at least... They definitely know their stuff with Volvo's and have all the equipment. Expect a bit of a wait, as they're usually very busy. Ask if they can fit you in and I'm sure they'll accommodate you when they can.

The biggest issue with these is the cost of emissions related parts now! I had the same issue with a 2015 V60. I cleaned the valve out ect and it fixed it for a while but ideally it needed a new cooler as there’s only so much unblocking you can do. We sold the car but ultimately the bulk of the cost is the bits. The job itself is pretty easy to do.

Walnut blasting is best used for cleaning the valves, common practice on direct injection engines especially petrols nowadays. Brings them back good.

Also I have used various brushes ect which does work but you must make sure the inlet valves are closed. Lengthy process…..
