Default XC70 haldex 5 demand pump

Hi,

I need to change the demand pump on the haldex 5 unit on my 64 plate XC70.

Has anyone done this and can tell me how much AOC oil is required to refill the unit after the pump as been replaced?

I have a litre of the oil but don't want to buy more if I don't need it as it only has a 2 year shelf life.

The volvo tech manual does not state the amount.

Cheers

Although there is no mention of quantity in this video..

...the contributor shows what he drained out at the end and doesn't appear to be more than a litre there.

When you refer to the oils shelf life of 2 years, is this because it is hydroscopic?

I can’t remember exactly, but you will be fine with 1L and will have some spare. Run the haldex pump air ‘purge’ function in Vida afterwards.

Thanks for the replies and the video link.

I'm guessing it is hydroscopic, the container is date stamped and states it only has a 2 year shelf life from that date.

I've looked through Vida so I will purge it after then top up, cheers.

As

Interesting that the oil has a shelf life of 2 yrs.

What's the service period for the oil change?

I wonder how many cars fitted with Haldex 5 are floating around with oil past its shelf life never mind the service period.

My own car had a new pump at around 48k miles. It was under warranty. It's highly likely that oil past its shelf life was contributory to the failure.

How much moisture can there be in the air space above the oil in a sealed container? The manufacturer could ensure minimum humidity when bottling the oil and so I doubt that the shelf life date is due to the hygroscopic nature of the oil. It's my experience that shelf lives are often there to guarantee reordering and provide a liability loophole. Does oil in the Haldex unit get completely changed every two years?

There's no oil change in the service papers. I do it anyway, both on our Haldex 4 and Haldex 5 cars.
