"Old Squeeky"
Hi -
For some reason my car has taken to squeeking in the last week - there have always been a couple of bushings in the back that complained, and now the front-end too! I think it is the upper control-arm bushings, but it also squeeks when I turn the wheel. I have all new poly bushings, and I think I greased them all, so what's up with that, and what can I do about it? I was going to go out with a can of WD-40, but figure I could ask on here first. Kind-of embarassing. |

WD-40 will make it worse. It will just clean the grease out of the bushes.
I take it it has been raining a lot where you are, or you have been driving through rivers. I would just apply lots of grease around the bushes and go for a bumpy twisty drive to feed it inside. Other than that its probably going to require pulling the bushes out to grease them. |

I'm by no means an expert on this, but I've just started to fit poly bushes to the front suspension on my Spitfire. I was following these instructions:
http://www.polybush.co.uk/instructions I don't see any mention of grease? Ed |

Ive done my Range Rover and quite a few Minis. All the kits came with a little tube of moly grease and instructions to use it.
I was lazy and paid to have my Volvo front ones done, so dont know if they are greased or not. I kind of just assumed that grease was normal based on my experience. |

Hi, and thanks for that - yes there was grease, so I used it, but may have forgotten once or twice. I'm guessing the poly is pretty durable, so may try some oil, but I was hoping it might be something I had overlooked, like squeeking originating from where the crossmember bolts onto the frame - it just seems odd to have started rather suddenly.
Oh - not a lot of rain here at all, been very dry, although it was wet before xmas. Hah - I remember the trouble I had getting some of the bolts out, and applied the grease to the bolt. I'm not sure if I did the outside of the sleeve. That must be it. James |

Hi - yes, it is interesting the instructions do not mention grease, just soapy water.
In the meantime, the squeek is almost gone!! I think there must have been a small stone which worked its way in there somewhere, and has ground itself to bits. |
