Further to my issues. The car went into Volvo Norwich. Had EGR Cooler, EGR Valve and Inlet Manifold all replace FOC by Volvo.

Ive just bought my first Volvo - XC60 auto 2016. The check engine light has come on. I know the car was serviced prior to the sale. Ive also noticed that when ive checked the engine oil level it has said oil level too high. Im trying to understand if there is something wrong with the engine or if its a fault that needs resetting. I do also get a low battery charge warning come up but im assuming the battery is on its way out.

Happy days, Holden's Norwich have been nothing but great for me, if a tad on the expensive side like most dealers I guess...

This thread relates to the 4 cylinder (VEA) engine issues with the EGR cooler design. Is your car a 2.0l 4 cylinder?

Took my car to stoneacre Newcastle to be plugged into reader, the code they read said egr needed replacement and the manifold.

Said they’d ask volvo for a goodwill gesture but couldn’t promise anything,

(Cars 2015 full volvo service history 70k miles)

Well today they’ve replaced all parts that were needed free of charge thank the lord.
So I’m a very happy guy.

Only right they pay. Fundamental design errors in relation to EGR system on their part causing cars which are not that old to get problems at relatively low mileages.

Hi, so further to my earlier posts I am pleased to confirm that Volvo have covered the costs of replacing the EGR cooler and valve for us too as goodwill. We had to speak to head office to get the good will approved as no goodwill was available on the main dealers system. Our V40 has done c.£78k and is 2015 D4 model. Fingers crossed all will be good now. Excellent service from the dealer and car engine sounds much better now.

At the same time, my car was also due for the ECM software upgrade recall, so in it went to Volvo Maidenhead, who then replaced the EGR cooler under a goodwill arrangement with Volvo.

So... in the end, Volvo paid for it.

Whether that would happen in September 2021 or if I'd gone to another Volvo dealer instead I don't know.

What I can say is that the right dealer will probably fight your corner for you, and you shouldn't have to go to Volvo yourself.
The official Volvo recall dictated the fitting of a new EGR cooler, which also changed it to become an EGR heater and therefore flash off condensation and reduce the potential for shooting. Basically slow Theo process down.

If you have a Volvo which has not had the recall then I would expect a new EGR heat exchanger as part of the recall.

If a vehicle has already had the recall performed and is out of warranty then Volvo will not fit a new exchanger.

My 7 Y/O D4 (3 years post recall & well out of warranty) failed it’s last MOT on emissions and the garage stripped and cleaned the EGR heat exchanger and then it passed with flying colours, cost me £280

Thumbs up Got mine done too

Having had car (V60 D4 64 plate) go into limp mode in December, had it in to my local garage who replaced the EGR valve which cost about £800. The engine management light stayed off for all of 30 miles!

Had seen cars of similar age with much higher mileage getting the fixes foc from Volvo still, so got in touch with Volvo Riverside in Leeds and had to pay for the diagnostics which confirmed the need for new EGR cooler and inlet manifold. I also sent them the link to this thread. A bit of toing and froing and they got Volvo UK to goodwill all but the diagnostic. Happy days!

They also collected and dropped the car back foc which was handy.

Well done Vic.

Riverside Volvo Leeds seems to be an excellent dealer 👍
