Question oil warning light on 440 SI TD

Hi all,
Very recently purchased this car. She's done a few miles but all servicing done by Volvo garage. The oil warning light stays on while revs are low, revs go above 1500 and light goes out. I've checked oil on dipstick, it seems OK and doesn't seem to use any. The car drives really well, hopefully she's not about to go bang!! Would really appreciate any advice. Ade.

My first thoughts would be to get a 'proper' oil pressure gauge connected and see what the oil pressure actually is.
Then you can see if its a dodgy sender for the oil warning light, or if something more serious like a worn oil pump, etc.

Check and change the oil filter too, if its a non-volvo one they are not as good. Some open up a bypass valve when blocked.

Have had oil flushed and replaced and volvo filter fitted. Mechanic said pressure is slightly low at low revs but should be OK if light goes out when revs go up. Driving OK since then, will let you know if problems occur!!!

the oil warning presure sender will react to as little as 7psi and put the warning light out ,just because it goes out at above tickover does not mean your oil pressure is normal or anything close to normal did he tell you exactly what your pressure figures were?

Do what Alec says, get a proper guage on there.

The warning light does NOT monitor the oil LEVEL, it monitors the pressure. If the light is on when idling when the engine is cold, something is wrong.
Your mechanic is half right, the light may come on at idle when the car is very very HOT, but is ok if it goes out when raising the revs.
