Volvo XC60 with Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF)
Probably all of this year gasoline XC60 owners have mounted GPF.
I am curious how it looks in everyday use? Do you have any similar problems like in diesel (DPF) filter. Should I be afraid the same problems when I am driving on a short distance 20-30 km/day. I have found some information about GPF: AECC-technical-summary-on-GPF-final.pdf Gasoline-particulate-filters But I still have no idea how it works in real conditons in XC60? How it looks the exhaust system architecture? Any bad experience with new GPF in XC60? BRGDS |

20 / 30 km per day is not really a short distance (unless that is made up of loas of short journeys), and tbh all you need to do every now and again is take it to the red line a few times. (When Hot)

You would not know it's fitted. I have only once noticed my D5's DPF and that was when I stopped to park half way through a regeneration. The radiator fans roared away for a while and that was it.
In theory a GDF should be more reliable than even the current generation of DPF. That's because the exhaust gas from a petrol engine is far hotter than from a Diesel engine and therefore initiating the regeneration should be no problem whatsoever during any normal driving.

That won't make much of a difference unless it just happens to coincide with the system actually initiating a regen cycle, which it only does when the computers decide to.

I actually have XC60 with DPF and never have any problems with it, but when burning proces starts I feel the loss of power in some cases.
Moreover when I started to use the car on short distances 20-30 km the burning proces starts more frequently. And my fuel consumption gone up. I wanted to get rid of this DPF and to buy a gasoline XC60 but now it is not possible to have a new car without DPF or GPF. One thing comforts me that GPF needs a lower temperature then DPF to start burning proces, but fuel consumption for sure will be higher on short distances. I hope that engineers have learned something when constructing a DPF and GPF filter will be better done. |
