It's not a big deal, but I'd prefer the system some other counties use where the plate follows the owner. So for my new car I am considering a private plate, so that people won't know just how new/old it is (unless they are a Volvo nerd). That said, I'll probably get private plate comments |

You will if you manage to get hold of A1.

I have a private plate, which I bought many many years ago dirt cheap with the money I saved on buying a car 3 weeks before reg change, the money I saved was only half of the plate, so I treated myself.
Of Course you pay to transfer it, as most who buy a private plate tend to want it for life. I think cars on private plates are less likely to be stolen, I might Add some private plates are pig ignorant and arrogant and owner wants shooting. A Plate for me is a personal thing, people know it is my car, it relates to me. I wish I could have found a plate for my GF as well with both our initials, (the Plate is out there) but not available. I was hmm and ahhing about another plate that is available with VOL on the end, and my initials in the front, quite cheap, but it is only for a Volvo, and my next car will probably be something else. If someone wants a private plate good luck to them, |

You might well disagree with it - so do I - but unfortunately we’re both in the minority and the simple fact is that it does affect the car’s value. So, for the sake of waiting 3 days to save a bag of money, I’m happy to do it... |

I don’t think that plate exists any more. I’ve half a memory it never actually did, but it’s been about ten years since I worked in the industry so can’t really remember. I recall F1 sold for around half a million quid, though, so A1 would certainly fetch a few bob...

Totally agree with you as surely anyone selling a car with a Private Plate will keep "their" plate when the car is sold when DVLC will then reregister the car with a new plate showing the car's "original" year..........

Yes I understand that, but if the lease contract has the same figures per month then it doesn't matter whether the car is 08 or 68 as the payments are the same and you are handing the car back to the lease agent after . It may be the lease agent takes a hit but that will depend.

If you decide to literally hand the car back and walk away because you’ve decided you don’t want a car any more, it’ll make no real difference. But if you’re moving onto a new lease deal, your equity in the deal will be much lower. (Might I just add that this confusion is one of the many reasons why I no longer do lease/PCP/HP areangements...) |
