Default T8 Oil Level Check

I’m struggling to get an oil level reading on my MY20 XC90.

Most of most of my trips so far (3,000km) have been a combination of petrol and electric so don’t tend to trigger the 30km driving required to get an oil level reading. I’ve tried on longer trips but the last bit tends to be on electric so may not have met the parameters for checking.

Yesterday I tried a 40km drive all on petrol, left the car level for over 5 mins and the car status says that the oil level is still ‘unavailable’.

Has anyone managed to get check their oil level consistently?

I do not have to drive to check my oil level (D5 engine) just turn engine on and check it, it does not show if not running.

Thanks, I think I might have been misunderstanding the manual. There is a note which says:

“The car must have been driven approx. 30 km (approx. 20 miles) and have been stationary for 5 minutes with the engine switched off and on level ground before the oil level indication is correct.“

...but perhaps this is only for checking after oil has been added.

I’ll try again later.

You could try holding the start switch in the on position for more than 5 seconds with your foot off the brake so the engine does not start but full ignition turns on and see if you get a reading. (Your main headlights will come on with full ignition) if not run the engine.
