noticed that gears change at 4,500 rpm i had a rover 2.3 it had a sports mode and when pressed went upto 7,500 why aint ovlov got sports and is there a way to get the auto box to rev higher ? as the kick down is superb at 30 and 60 and 90 .. but pull of is pathetic worse than my misses gti escort lol .. would a rica chip solve this or a mbc ?? cheers in advance pete

If your car is an 850 it will come with a sport mode that allows the gearbox to change later, even on hand controls I can get mine to change around 5,500-6000.

Hiya,

my '97 850R had a sports mode on its 4 speed Aisin Warner AW50-42 auto gearbox. It did hold the revs higher in sports mode but I don't think it was more than the rev limiter (6.3k I think).

Is yours an 850 though? If it's a 940 like in your profile shots I can move this thread to the appropriate group to see if folks there have better info...

sorry i had a 940 well 2 now got a 1998 v70 t5 with no bloody s button ..

Oh right - I think you have the 5 speed auto box then - does it have D 2 3 4 N P R?

I think that shows it's the 5 speed. My 4 speed only had D 2 3 N P R (no 4) and it had the sport button.

If it's the 5 speed my understanding is it's an adaptive box, so if you've been behaving yourself it's probably calmed down - see if you can get it to re-learn a more urgent driving style! Sorry, don't know much more about the adaptive learning 5 speed boxes...

No sport or economy buttons = "adaptive" transmission.

(it's not that adaptive, though...)
