Default XC90 T8 fuel query

Hi everyone. Received our new XC90 three weeks ago. Driving 90% of the time on electric as short journeys around town. I have downloaded our driving log and since the 1st of this month it says we have used less than 9 litres of petrol. The reality is I have put in and used approximately 35 litres.

So my question is, how accurate is the driving log? 9 litres would make more sense to me as it rarely switches to petrol. The fuel gauge drops by 30 miles or so over a 24 hour period of driving in pure. We pre-condition whilst plugged in.

Many thanks!

TBH the OP has not really given us much to go on, for a start how many miles overall we talking about driven in the 3 weeks?
Also precondition, I assume op means parking climate, so that uses fuel too to heat up the car? Again how often are we talking about?

At max output the aux fuel heater uses ~0.2 litres per 20 minutes of operation which would cost ~£0.25. Pre-heating a D5 or T6 will reduce the fuel consumed by the engine (as it won't be cold) and so the net cost will be less*. I guess the benefits for a T8 will depend upon how it's used.

So one scenario would be that the OP used 9 litres of fuel for driving and 26 litres for aux heating which would equate to roughly 43 hours of (pre)heating. This seems unlikely.

Does the T8 use the aux heater for cabin heat even when driving in all-electric mode?

*The aux heater manufacturer says: Approx. 20 - 40 % of the quoted fuel consumption is compensated by the lower consumption of your pre-heated engine.

Put simply, Yes.

Thank you for your replies.

Definitely all in Litres.

For heating I have the fan on the very lowest setting and have the temperature at 20, so no excessive heating.

Don't get me wrong, my fuels costs are considerably less than previously, but the driving log data and my real-life experience seem vastly different. And like one user mentioned 43 hours of pre conditioning seems very high (in which case I won't precondition!)

Just to add, I have preconditioned approximately 10 times in the last 19 days
