Polestar upgrade for S60 D3 136
Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum. We bought our first Volvo April this year. S60 D3 design R Lux, quite a high spec, except for Sat nav. We both like driving the car, but we both felt that it could do with a little more power. Last week we were having some warranty work carried out on it, at our local Volvo dealership. I asked about the Polestar upgrade for the D3 136, which is now available. They quoted me £600+vat, which I thought wasn't a bad price. I will contact the tomorrow to see if they can do it at a better price? Any thoughts on the upgrade or experience on any carried out woul be very helpful? One more question, I also contacted the garage the the car was originally bought from, and enquired about the full spec of the car. He did confirm that the car had a very good spec and that the engine was a D5 not a D3. He confirmed this again after I read out the car vin number. But on the log book and boot it says D3, and to be honest the car doesn't drive like a 200hp car. I'm a bit confused, could the car have been de-tuned down to 136, or did the factory make a mistake on the car's spec?
Thank you. Last edited by S60Bet; Oct 15th, 2014 at 22:50. Reason: Spelling |

Can't see the making a mistake with the D3/D5 like that. The D5 is 2.4l not 2.0l. The D3 is a de-tuned D4 (which is a 2l 163bhp).
I had the Polestar upgrade done to my 2013 136bhp D3 a few months back - wrote my thoughts at http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=211672 and have also shared some in other threads. Not sure where abouts you are but I had the upgrade done for £499+VAT: http://www.volvocarslondon.co.uk/aft...mance-upgrade/ I couldn't get any other garage to match that price though. |

Not having driven a 136PS D3 I have no idea what it is like.
My 2011 D3 came from the factory with 163PS and I would describe it as adequate. I understand the Polestar upgrade from 136PS does not release the full old 163PS potential leaving the VMAX at the artificial restriction. That may or may not be important to you. The older 163PS D3 can be fiddled with to get 200PS which is noticeable therefore I reckon 136 to 163 should also be noticeable. I don't know if the Polestar upgrade will allow further fiddling to get to 200PS.

I contacted Volvo UK today and they did confirm that the car is a D3 model. So look like I'll be going ahead with the Polestar upgrade. I'm not to bothered about the top end speed. Also, might be looking to fit some eibach lowering springs later on, as I feel that the car would look and handle better. Although it's the R design, it would look better a tad lower.
Thank you. |
