Any members from the Tayside/Angus area, Just had my 53 plate XC90

in this area. Thanks in advance.

What are they symptoms? The TCM is, statistically, one of the most reliable boxes in the car.

The rev counter stopped working , the gear indicator was only showing a dash instead of the normal PDNR. Again thanks

I had a wee problem with my previous S80 a few years ago and Butlers were recommended to me as automatic specialists. I phoned them and got a bit of advice, basically changed the fluid and never had a problem again. Were certainly pleasant to deal with.

If the car is driving okay and changing smoothly as it should then I think you have a another problem - possibly with the DIM (Driver Information Module - i.e. instrument cluster). The signal for the rev counter does not come from the TCM (transmission control module).

There are companies that do fixed price repairs on the DIM for approx £100 - if you search this forum you should find them. Volvodiagnostics are one but there are others.

To be clear - if the only problem is the electronic display - the gearbox does not need to come out!

As above, if it's a 2003 I'd look first into the DIM issue with a member on the forum fixing it for not much. Car battery must be disconnected while the DIM is out.

....copy that if you remove the instrument cluster, disconnect the battery first and do no reconnect it until the DIM is replaced. If you do a number of faults will be logged that will leave error messages and warning lights on until reset.
