V60 D2 Powershift Auto start/stop not working
My car is a MY13 V60 D2 powershift. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that the engine is not cutting out when stopping as it should. Dealer says it is all to do with the temperature but the engine did stop in much colder weather than we have now. I have stopped using the auto temperature, reduced the interior cabin temperatures and turned off heated seats all to no avail. The auto start/stop will not cut in when I come to a stop. Yesterday I drove 15 miles to a city centre and drove for many miles around the city and not onec did the engine cut out when I needed to stop at lights etc. Any help or ideas please? (The button for start/stop is definitely on and showing a green Light).
Apart from this I am very happy with the car apart from the fuel economy. How can Volvo quote 62.8 mpg for this vehicle. I am a very careful driver and can not average more than 46mpg. Last edited by bigals55; Mar 7th, 2013 at 20:25. |

It sounds as though something is not quite right. Mine is cutting out at the moment, as it should, without problems. In the first couple of miles it would not but 15 miles is more than enough to get the temperature up to the right level.
There is many a thread on here, and every other forum, about mpg figures. They are a load of old baloney as you have discovered. I have been getting 48mpg through winter but it has edged up to 50mpg this last week as the temps have risen slightly. Overall over the 6 months I have had it I am averaging 50mpg. I have had 58mpg on long journeys with an empty car, 50-52 with a full one. All of these figures are again nowhere near the official figures and I like you drive conservatively. At some point Trading Standards will hopefully step in and put a stop to this nonsense but for the moment when I see a figure from a mfr I take 20-30% off.

I had a similar issue with my 2010 C30 DRIVe D2 so I checked the manual and discovered that there are so many ways for the S/S not to work.
Eventually brought it to the dealer and wasn't told what they did but they did say that if the issue arises again they may have to replace a 'part'. I thinlk it's the S/S battery not getting charged enough.

There is quite a list of criteria that have to be met before the s/s works, but to be honest mine will stop most of the time after the car has driven a few miles. Annoyingly it often stops after a couple of miles and then starts straight away

Thanks
Thanks for your interest. Sounds like a confrontation with the dealer is required but I wanted some advice before I made myself look stupid.

When you press the "my car" button on the top right of the centre console there is a section in DRIVe that will tell you if the Start/Stop is active and if it isn't, why not.
Check out page 129 onwards of: http://esd.volvocars.com/site/owners...B_TP_15239.pdf With regards to the fuel economy, all cars are tested in the same way and the quoted MPGs should only be used as a way to compare one vehicle to another, not as a way to get a true life fuel economy. I'd imagine that your fuel economy will improve as you put more miles on the vehicle and also remember to reset your average MPG every tank or so or work it out manually for a definitive figure as the on board calculations can be a little out sometimes. Hope this helps and enjoy the car! |

Not entirely true. The tests are run in the same way but then calculations are performed to calculate the figures. At this point the manufacturer can influence the figures with incorrect data such as drag coefficient. Also supplying a car with different wheels and tyre combo than we acuually buy.

Thanks MtillingVolvo
Thanks MtillingVolvo. Very helpful. It would have been good if my dealer in Sheffield had suggested looking at My Car DRIVe
