Thumbs down V60 Hybrid and Preconditioning – order ON CALL

With The Hybrid you can precondition the car before you unplug it – which saves on battery power.

But you can only really precondition it from a PCC (keyless) remote or, I think, from the on Call iPhone APP.

As I didn’t get either option on mine, and neither option can be fitted as an aftermarket add on – I can’t use it – which is annoying.

So if you have one on order or are planning to order one – get one of these two options – or both to be on the safe side!

I researched this when I ordered and have both. I particularly wanted VOC as it allows you to download data from the car such as mileage and economy. Its a shame that some dealers know so little about the car that they do not tell customers that they need these extras. You can set pre conditioning via the timer from the dashboard the night before though if you know what time you are going out.

Yes the dealer knew less that I did - which was very little!
and frankly still does!

You are right you can set on a timer - which I guess would be OK if you drove the car 7 days a week at exactly the same time! Not sure how much use that would be in real terms! I did try the direct precondition - I.e. Got in the car - when through the menu clicked - Direct Start - got out the car - waited 10 minutes - got back in and drove off. But that then stuck in Diesel mode for the whole 20 minute journey with a message saying 'Hybrid Mode Unavailable'. And I couldn't figure how to clear it! So I gave up!!!

Well done on ordering the 2 - you chose well!

Also - if you have had one of their free charging points put in at home - you won't need a charging cable for at home.

But you will if you use any public charge stations

The default one in the car has a 3 pin plug on it - which you can swap for £45 to a type 2 instead. A type 2 is what is needed for public charging stations. I would do that

Because - It is unlikely that you will use the three pin plug one - access to a usable 3 pin socket by your car would be unlikely and you can't charge at full ampage.

I only just figured this as have ordered a type 2 charging lead at over £200!

Its good to talk to someone who has got one to find out these issues but it is a shame you are not getting the full benefits. My order is now finalised so can't change. I have kept with the 3 pin plug on the basis that if you need to for any reason you can charge from any outlet. I have ordered a type 2 cable from the company putting my home charging point in and their cost is £199 for a 5m cable or £189 for a 3m. Just out of interest did Volvo send somebody to do the handover at the garage. My dealer is saying that all D6's have a specialist come to the dealer to carry out the handover because of the nature of the car, which makes sense based on both our comments that the dealers know so little about the workings of the car. Lets hope the mechanics that service them are up to speed.

I thought that adding the lead could have been done at any time before they delivered it! They only bung one in the boot! Your thoughts on the 3 pin were same as mine. But in reality I can't think of anywhere I go where I could use it. At 6amps (which would be the safety option to charge from an extension - it would take 10 hours to charge!) I doubt whether I would bother. It does charge as it goes along up to 12 mile charge (so they told me) - but only when braking or slowing down.

Yes there was a specialist - BUT - get the non specialist there too - because the 'specialist' really only knew about the electrical stuff. Knew nothing about DAB / SAT / Voice Control / Settings / DVD player (!) / tow bar etc . I like to go through everything and there was some settings he just didn't have a clue.

I was kind of expecting to find faults / make mistakes as they are so new - but I thought they would have a hotline for dealers to answer questions as opposed to waiting 2 weeks for an email response.

Still waiting to find out
1. If you can precondition from outside the car
2. If you can set a timer to charge (says in the manual if the light is blue it is on a timer - but doesn't tell you how to set a timer!)
3. How you use voice activation on a full postcode - because without it - voice activation on Sat Nav is useless!

And I've only done 150 miles!!!
I have got an average 91MPG though - but most of it was short drives in PURE!

I can't get it serviced at the local dealers as they do not have a 'trained' engineer! Maybe in 12 months when it needs servicing they will have one. But to be fair they did say they would pick it up to service it.

I don't know if you found the answer to this or not but, FWIW, you can use the VOC App to set timers for a few known charging locations (based on GPS I guess). My car now knows to only use off-peak power when it's charging at home.

I don't have the VOC option! I have now put a timer on the charging point so it only works at night - saved me a fortune!

Oh, thanks! I didn't know if a physical timer would work or not (the dealers I spoke to didn't seem to know) so didn't want to risk buying with VOC.
