Autohold

When pulling up on my drive the other day (which has a slight incline), I stopped, came off the brake to let the car roll backwards slightly, and noticed that the brake stayed on for about 5 seconds before releasing and letting the car roll backwards.

Tried it again and the same thing happended.

I've yet to read the manual but think I must have stumbled across some sort of auto brake assist.

Great feature if it is....or perhaps a very useful malfunction!!

yes this is a built in feature , called hill start assist or something similar .

But as far as I know there is no auto hold feature on our cars, or there is?

If you have an automatic then there is, if manual, you need to use your foot

I've discovered this as well on my V60. There is a bit of a slope up to some traffic lights nearby and on several occasions when I've taken my foot off the brake pedal, the brake stays on for a second or so before it rolls back. It doesn't seem to do it all the time though, and I can't quite work out the sequence of events that does it.

I did wonder if it was my brakes grabbing, but the car is brand new and it feels like a deliberate hold and release.

Yes there is, it was introduced a year or two ago ..

Yeah, it's Hill Start Assist. I have it on my '13 S60.

I'm not quite sure of the sequence of events that trigger it. I suspect it's clutch in, on footbrake, in 1st gear, and when you release the brake but not the clutch, it holds for 3 to 5 seconds.

I also suspect there's electronic magic going on to sense the angle of the car, but I've not been able to test that theory yet. Given the amount of MEMS gyroscopes in the Volvos these days to assist the DSTC and Rollover Protection, I wouldn't be surprised if they're also wired in to the Hill Start Assist software to tell the car what angle it's at.

My manual 63 plate MY14 xc60 manual has this. Stop on an incline and the brakes hold for approx 5 seconds
