Unfortunately not being able to look at the bonnet today as my brother in law was on his way over and his engine has gone bang in his mini, but checked the heater core pipes and the tie wrap temp fix is not holding, no surprise really.

I am back on days tomorrow so got to get the wife to take it to a garage to fit a new heater core clip and sort the bonnet, wish I could have sorted myself but haven’t got the time until Friday and need it sorted will keep you updated soon as it is done.

I had exactly the same issue when I did mine. I updated an earlier intercooler thread/post with photos of the latch and how I opened it.

It was very easy to fix - just remove skid tray and lower all 3 rads via bottom bolts. Just an inch or two.

Then check the rads go in to the vertical pins that screw down from the slam panel. If it’s not back in the pins the bonnet wire gets pinched.

Even if the rads are sitting in the pins, just feel the wire along the rear edge of the slam panel to move it back towards engine ever so slightly.

Then bolt back up to bring the rads back up tight and all should be ok.
Max 30 mins and you should be sorted. Worth a go and quicker than trying to explain to a garage.

Just got it back and XCF you were spot on I hadn’t located the pins properly and pinched the cable, and a new clip fitted on the core pipe so all sorted ( touchwood).

And been m o ted too, the heater is nice and warm again which I’m pleased about and pulls better especially as the revs climb it seemed to be out of breath before so really pleased about it.

So fingers crossed the mpg will go back up again but time will tell thanks all for the help and replies as always.

Daniel
