Many thanks for all the advice. The red power steering fluid has now been flushed out, and replaced with the correct green fluid. There was a slight fluid leak from the rack, so the o-ring seals have been replaced which seems to have cured the problem. Steering is smooth now with no pulsing.

Also had the timing belt, aux belt and water pump changed, air, fuel and pollen filter changed (the pollen filter was really choked up), and changed the engine oil and filter. (Castrol Edge 0W 30)

Next job is to change the auto transmission fluid, and perhaps fit a new set of tyres if finances allow. I have sourced a Valeo headlight to replace the fogged up offside unit. Also the rubber seal on the rear bumper that meets the boot floor has been replaced, £27 from Volvo main dealer.

It's my first foray into Volvo ownership, and I have spent a little more than planned, but it is a great car to drive. Unfortunately I only have one key, any ideas on where to source a second without spending too much? Is it a main dealer only job?

Thanks!

Can a key be duplicated at a shop , like an Iron mongers , they appear to advertise they can cut keys, suppose it would need to be dismantled ?

Replacement keys are main dealer only.

At least our insurance covers for lost key(s) We only have one key other has been misplaced, often thought of taking it apart and just taking the key in, so this is not possible ? Also something that really bothers us, suppose the chip behind the steering lock ever goes wrong , does that mean a Tow Truck job ?

The CEM/ECM know how many keys are programmed so if you want to introduce another key, ALL available keys need to be present and coded at the same time.
Any which aren't present will no longer start the car but their blades will obviously still open locks.

If you leave things as they are and find your second key, it will work but if you get a new key programmed and the lost key turns up in the future, it will no longer work.
