Found out I needed to reset the power windows to the the auto close to work properly. Method is; window fully up then operate the switch to its full up position 3 times. I had to do this on all the windows. All now working, passenger one is struggling so will need attention at some point, but not now haha.

Checked it on Vida and the 4 window faults have cleared. Just got one to go, can’t say I’m in a rush to fix it. I’m sure something else will pop up when I put the car into use, probably later this week.

Oh, I was horrified at the state of the inside wall of one of the tyres. It’s got multiple splits in the side wall on the inside of the tyre. To say it was MOT’d the day I bought it and it’s only gone 50 miles since, I’d suggest the MOT tester needs to visit the optician. First stop will be the tyre shop!

Two nice and black new tyres on the front; ‘Falken Azenis’

£208!!! Somewhat more expensive than my P2, from local tyre shop rather than a chain.

Want to do the rears in the next month or so as they’re mismatched makes that I’ve never heard of although they have good tread. It will depend on my wallet health as the car has had quite a bit spent on it in the few weeks since I bought it.

Found that the passenger side mirror doesn’t fold, there’s an MOT entry a few years ago mentioning a damaged mirror.

Wondering if it’s been swapped for a non-powerfold unit. It there a way of easily checking to see if the motor is present?

Not an urgent job by any means.

My next job has just arrived.

Car is just short of 170k miles and changes ok. So I’m intending around 3 ‘sump dumps’ (a few hundred miles apart) of the ATF rather than a full flush just to refresh the oil and give me a starting point for future maintenance.

One of those little jobs that make life easier...
A new gas strut on the boot floor and the last one didn’t hold it up.

Have you looked at your rear trailing arm bushes yet Reggit ?

I did mine last weekend, not easy on your driveway ! They literally fell apart when I unbolted the old ones.
And changed the lower rear tie bars, difficult as the outboard bolts were seized in the bushes, one came out with a bit of force, the other I had to cut off with a cutting disk on my angle grinder.

I also changed all four springs (Eibach -30mm) and all four shocks (Bilstein B4) - the steering / handling is noticeably improved, they were all shot at 118,000 miles.

Not turned my attention to the back end yet, although I don’t think it will be long.

There’s a slight rotational rubbing noise from the NSR (I think) hub, so once the weather improves again that’s likely to end up in bits! So the work will likely move on to the bushes as well.

Took it on the motorway for the first time since I bought it yesterday and from 60mph upwards it was shaking like a pig from the back end, although not consistent.
Had a think about it and there was nothing obviously wrong, other than mixed brands of horrible Chinese tyres (highfly & davanti). Started thinking that it was likely one of these had developed a flat spot, causing the rubbing noise and shake.

It’s been in to have 2 more tyres fitted and the rubbing noise has gone. Won’t be able to get to a motorway to test it at speed for a couple of days, but I’m fairly confident it was a duff tyre causing the shake.

It’s now got 4 matches, reasonable quality boots on it (at £100 each!)

Yes Reggit - the tyres are load rating 98 & quite a bit more expensive than on the ph2 ! I got a pair of Avons using a Blackcircles.com discount code last week for £175 fitted -

It's wise to always buy good tyres and never buy Chinese rubbish. The difference in price between a good set of tyres and a bad set of tyres can never compensate you for the risks you run with rubbish tyres and the adverse effects on the car which costs a damn sight more than a set of cheap tyres!
