Loss of Power S40 D
Losing power poor acceleration mechanic told me he thinks it may be the turbo but not sure without closer examination there was no bang or smoke then on returning from garage everything seemed fine. Brother thinks it may be the fuel filter but it was changed for MOT last September. Any ideas?

MAF sensor a likely candidate, easy fix if so.

I never use supermarket fuel in mine and generally fill up at one particular Shell as it's convenient and reasonably priced. Normally put some V Power through it every so often too but I haven't for a while.

I always run mine on Morrison's, asda or costco fuel with no issues over 90k miles from 120 to 210k. Try unplugging your MAF sensor and taking it for a drive. Back when i had issues the power inproved witht he MAF unplugged and it ended up being a faulty EGR valve.

Unplug the MAF and see if the car drives ok.
Other things that cause loss of power, is blocked EGR valve, in which case, cleaning solves the problem. Also faulty N75 valve, can cause this, as well as a burst intercooler or turbo pipe. Check all of them in case one has a split If the turbo was gone, the car would be smoking like crazy. I am really surprised that a mechanic even suggested that
