Default Tow weight limit?

New to Volvo having just purchased an Amazon 123, looked through my handbooks but cannot find a reference to tow weight limit. Can you advise please?

Unlikely that it has a quoted max weight, as a lot of stuff of that age just doesn't, and I've been told from folks on this forum that even a lot of 740s don't have quoted maximum towing limits.

Bearing in mind that a 2005 S60 which weighs 1500-1600kg and has bags of torque can tow 1600kg, I certainly wouldn't be trying to tow anything heavier than that behind an Amazon which from memory weighs nearer 1100kg. Other people may disagree mind!

Now there's a question...

As the previous chap said it's unlikely there will be an official manufacturers figure, you could try looking for a VIN plate?

Bear in mind it will weigh between 1000 and 1100 Kg, even with modern cars it's not desirable to be towing anything heavier than the towing car itself and that's on cars with sticky tyres, power steering, modern dampers and significantly better ABS brakes.

I would also give careful consideration to how the towbar is attached, the structure of a car that age will be less robust, even on a Volvo.

However it has been done..... with some modifications.

Thanks chaps, I have ordered a towbar through Amazon Cars who source this from skandec I believe. It will be fitted by towbar professional people so it should all be good.

Having sourced the towbar I need to think about the extended rear view mirrors.
The only ones that I can find to fit my standard wing mounted round mirrors are a suction cap assembly with extended stalk and mirror attached. Simply stick the sucker onto the existing mirror,
.£17 each but any others available?

'Back in the day' the mirrors would have attached through the gap between the bonnet and the wind with a strong spring holding the third leg under the wheel arch.

A dig around ebay might find one or two.

Default Mirrors

Having towed for many years with a 245, I have a pair of volvo wing mounted mirrors which may fit. I'm not sure whether it is legal to use them these days so I would recommend checking this.

I also have available a roof mounting volvo aerofoil.

Think you must be able to adjust the drivers mirror from the seat.
We have a set like the ones rallycinq was saying about but they fit on the door, got them from Go outdoors, check the site and I don't think they do them anymore, only about 3 years ago that we got them so maybe somebody else does them.

Thanks for all responses, I have now purchased a set of mirrors, wether they will pass the 'police test' I will find out. Basically the extended mirrors have a suction cup which attaches to the glass of the original mirror. They are tested to speeds of up to 120mph!
