Default Cam belt change 2.3 turbo

Hi all, I'm planning to do a cam belt change on my 1997 940 2.3 turbo. Whilst changing belt and tensioner I want to do the crank seal and cam seal, rang my local volvo dealer and was told neither seal was available as they were NLA. Looked on eBay and the Web no luck. Could anyone let me know if some where has any genuine seals for sale? Or if not what is best to buy and where?

Thanks for any and all help, it's greatly appreciated

Your dealer couldn't be bothered then as they are most certainly still available!

Ring or email FRF Volvo in Swansea

Cam seal and aux seal use the same part so you need
X2 6842273
Crank seal X1 1276425
Cambelt 3507704
Tensioner 32298826

While you're in there I'd highly recommend changing the front crank housing gasket as the bolts are usually loose and the gasket is leaking, you will need some gasket sealant to go along the bottom of the crank housing where it meets the sump to ensure it seals again. There are some 10mm bolts holding it on and two of the sump bolts go up inside it too. Along the bottom will be the wire for the oil pressure switch, these are held on with a pair of p clips and a nut, underneath the p clips are a second nut, make sure you remove those too or it isn't coming off! It's also located on dowels and will usually need a bit of gentle prying and swearing to get it off but it's doable. Shove a rag in the hole so you don't get old gasket in the sump while scraping it off.

Front crank housing gasket has to come from Sweden so will take a couple of weeks to arrive.

Front crank housing gasket 1378493

It's best to get the genuine Volvo crank locking tool too but I don't have a part number for this, Alf on here lets people borrowed his though.

Hi McRae Magic

Glad Luke has been able to help, he knows his stuff on this.

Contact for FRF Volvo that I have is :-

Email chap call Chris Harris on chrisharris@frf-motors.co.uk.

Quote in Subject Line your full VIN

Advise what exactly you are after, and quote discount code C3 VolvoOwners Club

Amount of discount I’ve had varies on parts, sometimes 5% upto 30%

Telephone number is 01792 310999 but they are so busy I’ve resorted to using email only, phone to pay.

They can even source Volvo parts from Sweden

Hope that helps

Cheers
Steve

If the seals are dry I would leave them , so easy to change in the unlikely event you need to in the future. They have lasted 26 years I'm sure they will do a lot more... I doubt the new seals today are as good a quality as the ones you have.

I'd be suprised if they are the original and still dry after 26 years !! I think the new Volvo genuine ones seem pretty good quality tbh

The original seals that came out of my 240k mile B230FK were well bu**erd

The new Volvo ones I bought were identical looking and felt very good quality

Tell me there are no Redblocks leaking oil from the front seals ( and probably rear main as well ) and then I'll believe you

I would have to agree with Clan here. I have lost count of the number of timing belts I have changed on redblocks over the years. Only changed the seals if required (not that often) not as a matter of course.
Just take the belt cover off and have a look before you order anything.
