Default 145 seat cleaning!

The seats in my 145 are the blue vinyl type and have a finish that looks almost burnt! They have area's that look like a blowlamp has been run over them and browned the surface, but when this is cleaned off the material is sound underneath, but a MUCH lighter shade of blue.
The original finish that hasn't been exposed to 40 years of sunlight is much darker and it is almost as if it has a coating over the top of the base vinyl that gives it the darker appearance which could be what has been affected and caused the discolouring?
Is this a common problem with seats of this age and colour?

Try sugar soap. If that doesn't work, try some different solvents on it - very carefully of course!

No, it was red!
The brown does come off very easily as said, but the blue underneath it is a much lighter shade and feels sticky when you run your hand over it compared to the unaffected surface next to it?!?
I would like to keep the car as original as practically possible, but it may end up with a set of seat covers on!
I was just wondering how common a problem it was with the 140 series seats?

Hi,
I have exactly the same issue on my 145, and torn vinyl too
I have it on the tops of the door trims, so i assumed it was sun damage.
(Does anyone know if i can get this blue trim material anywhere?)
I'd be very careful about cleaning it off, as my trims seem paper thin in places.

I would start with just a damp cloth and then maybe progress to a vinyl cleaning solution. In the States, there is a company by the name of Armor All that makes really good cleaning wipes for leather, vinyl, and plastic interiors. I use them on my 164 door cards, seats, and dash without any issue of discoloration or damage to the materials.

It has cleaned off ok but as previously mentioned leaves a much lighter colour underneath and it is not as slippery as the unaffected areas (which have also been cleaned).
This is why i am thinking it is like a coating that was on the vinyl that has been affected?
