  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default Gearbox oil

I have bought some oil for the autobox on my 2006 xc as im having issues with the box its the tf80sc box and was told to put jws3309 in it now I've bought this oil and someone has told me if i use it it will ruin my box my head is so confused with the differnt types of oil so looking for some clarity will this be ok to use as i have conflicting stories of it thanks

On a 2006 Volvo with that gearbox you definitely need the oil that you have bought ie JWS 3309.

Whoever told you that this oil is incorrect is in actual fact very much incorrect themselves.

The reason that you are being told it will destroy your box is that later boxes went to AW1. This however happened considerably later than 2006 (4 or 5 years later.

3309 is what you require and well done on getting that much!

I would call Volvo to confirm myself if I were you.

Its a 2006… it definitely takes JWS3309. No other option of fluid was available in that year. There’s no need to ring Volvo, as what’s been stated in replies to this thread is 100% correct.

Hmmm, might need to pick up some of that myself, 2007 XC70 6 speed geartronic, guessing same fluid.

Likely, but its detailed in your owners handbook, or phone your local dealer and check.

Even then putting 3309 into a post 2011MY TF80 box which had AW-1 at the factory wouldn't do it any harm.
